Magenta MAGNIFICENT IN AWARD-WINNING ’34 FORD ALTERED STREET ROADSTER IS A CLASSIC YET MODERN TAKE ON RODDING There is a heritage associated with the Street Rod hobby that remains crucial to success to this day. While the assembly-line workers who constructed the original pieces that many Rodding projects are built around may be long gone, it is ofttimes the pride taken in their work that allowed those cars to survive. The secondary builders of those same vehicles, such as the 1934 Ford altered street roadster seen here to be offered at Glendale in March, may massage every corner and piece of sheet metal to make their own statement, but the idea is also to retain enough aspects of the original to leave its origins identifiable. As one might imagine, care is required to do this properly, as well as usually a substantial financial investment in quality services to have it done “just right.” When that effort succeeds, honor is often the result, and this well-received topless Ford has been hand-built to accomplish glory on the show field. Indeed, to “run the table” like this car has done is a very rare achievement. It has been an International and Pacific ISCA Top 10 Class Champion, and has scored Best of Show, Best Rod, Outstanding Paint, Outstanding Detail, Outstanding Engineering, Outstanding Engine, Outstanding Use of Color, Outstanding Interior, Outstanding Altered Street Rod, Outstanding Display, and People’s Choice and Ladies Choice accolades at various shows. It won the Hot August Nights Presidents Trophy and took many of these victories in both talent-rich California competition—Oakland, Sacto, Fresno, Chico, Santa Rosa, Bakersfield—plus traveling further hunting for more, going as far as Phoenix, Denver, Salt Lake City, Seattle and Amarillo for various Good Guys and World of Wheels shows. The result, beyond the trophy cabinet, has been a touch of stardom in the show car world, which is why some readers might already be familiar with this particular car.
