INSIDE Inside, the car’s available interior colors were paired down from the non-Z16’s six to an assortment of three: white, red and black. Far from being a stripped-down straight-line racer, the Z16 Chevelle was heavily optioned, receiving the typical standard Super Sport equipment, including front bucket seats, four seatbelts, a padded dashboard, an electric clock (mounted on the dash and featuring a sweep second hand) and oil, water and amps gauges and tachometer. The glovebox door nameplate and trim plate was also retained. A collection of optional equipment was required for the Z16 package, including the four-speaker stereo radio (RPOU69), remote-control outside mirror (RPOZ13), an electric tach (RPO U16) and power steering (RPON40) with a special 15:1 ratio steering box. An exclusive Z16 touch was a 160 MPH speedometer, a big leap from the Super Sport’s 120 MPH unit and one matching the top speed of the Corvette’s speedometer.
