Aside from singing the unofficial club theme song “G.T.O” by Ronny & The Daytonas and enjoying the camaraderie and shared dedication around the Pontiac namesake, the Cactus GTOs Inc. dedicates its time and effort to giving back to the community that makes the club possible. By participating in events and cruises that help fund charities like Toys for Tots, the club finds ways to help those in need while also utilizing their beloved machines. In 2019, the club donated to the auto shop program at East Valley Institute of Technology in Mesa so the school could buy tablets for class members. One event the members particularly enjoy is the Adopt-a-Highway volunteer cleanup. The club has about a mile of highway along the beautiful Apache Trail near the Superstition Mountains where the members go twice a year to tidy the grounds and keep the earth and society healthy. By becoming a member, not only does one become part of a vehicle- loving family, but they also gain access to an exclusive community. Twice a year, the members attend a Car Clinic hosted by club member Frank Gostyla at his “Monster Garage,” where the club gets together to help fix up their vehicles, talk shop and bond over the maintenance of their beloved GTOs. The club has always had members with expertise in the nuances of Pontiac models, including Gostyla, Tim Blattner, the late Mike Baumgardner, Carl Sikes and Mark Delano. More recently, club member Stan Ford leads the setup of swap spaces at the Goodguys Southwest Nationals held in Scottsdale twice a year to help club members sell parts, while sharing history and memories with other enthusiasts. The Cactus GTOs Inc. is full of members like Vice President Mark Neumann, who have been “car guys” since their adolescence. Fueled by nostalgia, these members have come together to form a tight-knit bond and a club ready to cater to those with a love not only for GTOs, but for Pontiacs in general (Neumann owns four of them). His intrigue for “The Goat” was sparked by the passion that he shared with his brother. Dedicated to celebrating “The Great One,” Cactus GTOs Inc. is always looking to expand its horizons by accumulating new members and participating in events. Not only do the members realize the value of these vintage muscle cars, but they are also dedicated to keeping them in use by cruising through town and displaying them at Arizona- based events.
