That year, when six locals came together in a garage to pine over each other’s beloved vehicles, a plan was hatched, and the Central Florida Street Rod Association was born. The original members wanted a chance to come together monthly and participate in other events that would allow them to express their love for all things Street Rod. Several of those charter members are still active participants today. Now, 32 years later, the humble squad has morphed into a club of 72 members, and it is always embracing further growth. Founded on the idea of creating a family-oriented car club with built-in social interactions, CFSRA has expanded thanks to the love and dedication members have shared with their families and friends. Together, the members form an organization devoted to the building, driving, showing and general enjoyment of Street Rods. The Central Florida Street Rod Association is open to any car or truck enthusiast. The only requirement for membership is the payment of an annual fee. Members have access to all the activities and club newsletters, as well as a place to share enthusiasm, admiration and the history of Street Rods. Common events hosted by CFSRA include the weekly Saturday breakfasts at local eateries, the annual Christmas party, cruise-ins, annual car shows and National Street Rod Association events. The Central Florida Street Rod Association works in tandem with the National Street Rod Association to help create successful, enjoyable and fun car shows and events. CFSRA members gather both in state and out of state to set up and initiate games for the youth who come to the events, while also providing a tent for relaxation that doubly serves as a parking area for members to show off their prized possessions. Members can be spotted curating a joyful atmosphere at each NSRA National event from Tampa, Florida, and Knoxville, Tennessee, to Louisville, Kentucky. Aside from the affiliation with the national branches, CFSRA members participate in local, club-run events as well. Most often, members attend the monthly cruise-ins held throughout Florida, in locations such as Lake Wales, Lakeland, Plant City and Winter Haven. These events serve as opportunities for both camaraderie and a lovely joy ride in their favorite vehicles. 104 // MECUM.COM
