Not much, according to devoted members of the Tulsa Vette Set (TVS)—an Oklahoma-based car club that finds unmatched enjoyment through interacting with and around their cars. Founded in 1971 by a batch of guys congregating to tune and buff their ‘Vettes in Mohawk Park, Oklahoma, initial plans for assembling the TVS were birthed from a purified fascination with the cool and consummate Chevrolet Corvette, conjured by a good group of people who craved the positive and exciting social aspects that a car club can deliver. Standing at 360 busy and boisterous members, the TVS offers a rare social scene that continues to curate a calendar bulging with cruises, car shows, events and fundraisers with enough pavement-hungry Corvettes to participate in all of the madness. A club with a firm foundation centered on social gatherings, the TVS houses some of the most welcoming members who do all they can to achieve status as kindred spirits with humble respect for their prized Corvettes. Steve Plummer, President of the Tulsa Vette Set, is in his sixth term as the honorable leader of the club and truly believes in the equality, friendship and education that members of the TVS offer. “Our goal is to enjoy each other and enjoy our cars. You join for your ‘Vette, you stay for the people. Our club is a social gathering; we do autocross, night cruises and weekly trips, sometimes even overnight. Everybody is just as excited to see you as they are to see your car. (It’s) just a really good, down-to-earth group of genuine people,” Plummer said. Genuine is the perfect adjective to characterize members of the TVS, as the past demonstrates their kind and giving nature to their communities and those in need. The largest non-corporate supporter of the Little Lighthouse—a Tulsa-based special education school with a focus on being a tuition-free, Christian school for students with special needs offering therapeutic care for ages 0 to 5—the TVS unfailingly volunteers for the school whenever it hears the call. 108 // MECUM.COM
