MOPARS Elmer ’s interests in cars and other collectibles were encompassing, and he was an undeniable fan of the popular Mopar line of classics. Among his personal favorites and those to be offered at the auction this September are a 1968 Plymouth GTX Convertible in green with orange shag carpeting, a 1970 Plymouth Satellite Convertible with factory air, a 1969 Dodge Charger 500 with a 440 Magnum V-8 engine showing 41,096 miles, a 1971 Challenger RT with a 383 CI engine showing 55,787 miles, and a factory dual-quad 426 Hemi-equipped 4-speed 1966 Plymouth Belvedere I showing 40,251 miles. Duellman was especially fond of the Plymouth Road Runner, and there are three slated to join the September auction lineup including a 4-speed 1969 convertible, a 1970 with a 383 CI 4-BBL V-8 engine showing just 42,463 miles, and a 1969 with the desirable 440 6-pack and 4-speed transmission. CONVERTIBLES Elmer and Bernadette both loved convertibles, a fact evidenced by the more than 30 that exist within their collection, including the several already mentioned above. In 1982, Elmer decided to add to their lineup with a purchase for Bernadette in the form of a new Chrysler LeBaron convertible, but with Elmer’s affinity for low-mileage originals and to Bernadette’s great disappointment, he had her park it permanently after driving it for just 440 miles. Bernadette also drove the collection’s 1973 Imperial 440 for many years af ter Elmer bought that car new, racking up the 26,413 miles it shows today, along with the 1959 Impala conver tible. The family would take the Impala on Sunday drives to church and afterwards play a game they dubbed “Lef t, Right, Straight,” with the kids shouting out a different direction at every intersection and trying their hardest to get Elmer lost. It was a game they admit they never won. Other convertibles in the museum’s collection include a V-8-powered 1940 Ford Deluxe, a one-of-201 1946 Lincoln Continental V-12 showing 35,387 miles, a 1950 Pontiac Star Chief, an unrestored 1963 Corvet te and a restored 1957 Corvet te, a 1962 Nova 400 II showing 40,302 miles, 1962 Impala, a ‘64 Corvair showing 16,464 miles, a 1964 Beetle, 1965 and 1966 Mustangs, a 1964 Chevelle SS, a 1967 Camaro RS, 1969 Camaro RS and a 1969 Camaro RS/SS Indy Pace Car Edition, a 4-speed 1970 Ford Torino with rare 429 big-block engine and a 1974 Volkswagen Thing.
